Prayers that avail much
James 5:16 KJV “Confess your faults to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” The NIV translates “availeth much” to mean…the prayers of a righteous man are powerful and effective.
The Bible also says in Matthew 11:25-26 “At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.”
And, one more…Matthew 19:13-14 “Then little children were brought to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked those who brought them. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
I am pretty sure that these verses are referring to my son…
Every night Carter prays “I pray for the RAN worker missionaries (this means missionaries in restricted access nations, and is what they are called in the PAOC missions book), that their money would come in, that they won’t be put in jail and that they would make Jesus famous.” He sometimes follows this up with, “…and that they would have a good time telling people about Jesus.”
I am pretty sure that when we get to heaven, he’s going to meet some missionaries who will be able to tell him stories about financial miracles, government miracles, and stories about how they made Jesus more famous in the countries they worked in.
He’s also started praying for a little girl that he’s never met named Sarah…she has cancer, but according to Carter – “Jesus, I pray Sarah wouldn’t have cancer anymore.” (see www.sarahtapley.com )
He told me the other night – “Mom, I wish sickness would just leave Canada alone.”
I think God takes great pleasure in the prayers of my son. I know that I do. What I do know for sure, is that I need more of Carter’s faith. I want James 5:16 to be true in my life…God, may my prayers avail much.
